Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts to become an established star failed. Two labels signed her but dropped her before she had made any music. In 2007, however, Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted only a little attention because of its humorous title track. Perry made more of a splash a few months later, with the single I kissed a Girl an assertive ode to the fascination of sexuality accompanied by a sharp electronic-pop beat. A few critics accused it of promoting homosexual relationships however others suggested the song's sexually explicit lyrics were meant to appeal to male fantasies. But the mixture of sensuality and polished music made I Kissed a Girl become a number one hit in multiple countries powering the sales of her album One of the Boys (2008). The sharp, bouncey second track was extremely popular. The album that Perry composed in large part sold more than three million copies.
